Blackwell dance academy opened its’ doors in 2004 with only a handful of pupils. It now has around 150 pupils and is growing from strength to strength. In 2010 it moved to its own purpose built and fully equipped studio based at “The Factory Studios”, Bournemouth. It prides itself on being a very friendly school with a high standard of teaching. The school offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Street Styles, and Musical Theatre. Most disciplines are taught by the school principal herself with Street and Musical Theatre classes being taught by other leading professionals. Pupils can come along for fun or to pursue a more serious pathway. All pupils have the opportunity to take part in the fabulous annual show along with many other events. The school participates in regular dance festivals with pupils often qualifying for the “All England” Regional Finals. Pupils showing the required technique also have the chance to audition for the Junior/Senior Royal Ballet Associate programme. Come and join us and realise your potential !
Ballet for pleasure, Ballet for the more serious-minded. This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. Ballet dates back to the 17th century. The conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in Ballet today. Choreographers have been influenced by composers through the ages. Ballet has a technique that forms the foundation of all dance. All classical ballet lessons are taught by the school principal herself following the IDTA syllabus.
Tap is rhythm - rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied and it is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. The more recent stomp and tap dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping. All tap classes are taught by the school principal herself.
Modern Jazz is fun. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre, one minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood, whatever the atmosphere of the class, it will be a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members of the class and really dance to express your feelings. All Modern Jazz classes are taught by the school principal herself.
So you wanna be a star? Or maybe you just want to have the fun of the stars. So start with the IDTA's Musical Theatre Syllabus! Musical Theatre takes you to inspirational heights-the spotlight's on you! These lessons will combine the teaching of singing technique encouraging the children to project and perform, along with movement and drama . All of our Musical Theatre classes are taught by Alice Burney. Alice trained in all aspects of musical theatre for 3 years at Liverpool Theatre School from where she graduated in 2010 with triple distinction. Her first professional job was Lead Singer in Headliners Theatre Company onboard P&O's Arcadia. Since then, Alice has sang her way around some amazing countries and performed with such artists as Michael Ball, finishing with a world cruise in April 2014. She is extremely happy and excited to be passing on her knowledge to all the students at Blackwell Dance Academy.
